In the last Malabar Lakes Blog post, we offered you tips for filling out an application for an apartment to rent here in Palm Bay, FL. This week to help you throughout the process of finding a new home, we’re featuring some helpful moving tips you can keep in mind for a smooth move.
Clean and purge. Cleaning your old home is a necessary part of any moving process. Use this opportunity to go through your things and get rid of anything that’s broken or old and anything that you don’t use anymore. Give yourself a goal for how long you want this to take you so you don’t put it off. If you tend to hoard things, give yourself a goal for how many items you want to throw or give away per room. Consider the benefits of living a minimalist lifestyle (or just think of how much easier it will be to move your things) if you need motivation to clear away things that are crowding your home and your life.
Keep a master list of your items and where they should be. As you’re cleaning and getting rid of things, you can start packing the things you won’t need until you move to your new apartment. This could start as early as weeks before you move, or it could be more rushed. But keep a list, either in a note on your phone or on a notebook, of where things are, which boxes they’re in, and where they should be once you move so you can stay on top of things. Find a way to mark your boxes so you can put those in the rooms they correlate with once you move.
Pack smart. There are usually going to be things you find last minute that you might just throw into a bag or box, but try to minimize the number of these things by packing room by room. That way you can empty out rooms easily and stay organized in your new home. Also remember to pack heavy to light so your things don’t break or get lost in the moving process.
